Saturday 14th October, 11.30am St Edward's Day Westminster Abbey
On 14th October the Abbey celebrates the life of St Edward the Confessor with a day of prayer and pilgrimage. The Solemn Mass at 11:30am is the main focus of the festival, and the Bishop of Worcester, John Inge, will preach. If you would like to come as part of a group from SMW, please let us know.
Tuesday 31st October, 12noon 500th Anniversary of the English Reformation Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is to mark the 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther's 95 Theses and the beginning of the Reformation with a Special Service. This will be an ecumenical service attended by UK Church leaders, Presidents from Churches Together in England, Representatives from the Council of Lutheran Churches and the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will give the main address. The service will explore Martin Luther's influence, include a note of repentance and also reaffirm an intention for churches to work together towards greater unity and harmony. Tuesday 31st October, 2.30-6pm Symposium: 'Liberated by God's Grace' St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey
Following the 12pm service, there will be a symposium taking place at St Margaret's Church, entitled 'Liberated by God's Grace'. The chair will be the Rt Rev'd Graham Tomlin, Bishop of Kensington, and the symposium will bring together leading academics to analyse the ongoing impact of the Reformation. What has been its effect on subsequent generations, not only for our churches but also for our wider self-understanding and social order? Details and tickets available here.
Thursday 9th November, 11am Service of Commemoration St Martin-in-the-Fields
